Kaia: Kaia’s Potty Parade

Kaia, part 1. A free five-minute bedtime story from CloudSheep.

Kaia’s Mommy set a small blue potty on the rug. The potty had little cloud stickers around the rim. Kaia stood far away and hugged her stuffed Bunny. "I do not want that," Kaia told Mommy. She stomped one foot on the soft rug.

Mommy sat cross-legged on the rug beside the potty. She did not pull Kaia closer. "This potty looks empty," Mommy said softly. "It needs a bunny show." Mommy patted the rug. Kaia walked over slowly and sat down with Bunny in her lap.

"Watch this, Bunny," Mommy said to the toy. Mommy gently sat Bunny on the potty seat. Bunny’s soft paws flopped over the sides. "Bunny is just sitting," Mommy said. "Feet on the floor." Kaia looked closely at Bunny’s paws and the empty potty bowl.

"Bunny, your turn is done," Mommy said. She lifted Bunny off the potty and set it back in Kaia’s arms. Kaia cuddled Bunny and sniffed the clean plastic bowl. "It does not smell yucky," Kaia said. Mommy nodded and gave the potty a gentle tap.

"Potty parade time!" Mommy said. She picked up the potty with one hand. With her other hand, Mommy beat a soft drum rhythm on her knee. Kaia stood up slowly. She held Bunny high and marched in a circle behind Mommy and the traveling potty.

Mommy set the potty back on the rug. "Kaia, your turn to sit," Mommy said. Kaia shook her head fast. Her tummy felt tight and fluttery. "I am scared," Kaia whispered to Bunny. Bunny’s stitched eyes looked up at her quiet face.

"Bunny will sit with you," Mommy said. She held out her hands. Kaia let Mommy take Bunny and place it on the potty rim again. Then Kaia turned and backed up very slowly. She lowered herself until her bottom touched the seat beside Bunny’s soft fur.

Kaia sat and listened. She heard only the quiet room and Mommy’s soft humming. Nothing came, and her legs felt wiggly. "All done sitting," Mommy said. She helped Kaia stand and pull up her pants. Mommy clapped once. "Potty parade hero," Mommy said. Goodnight, Kaia.
